What is your policy on absences?
ATHS has a strict attendance policy to earn credit. A student cannot accumulate more than five (5) absences in any nine week block.
If a student has been absent more than five times the student will need to pick up an attendance appeal form in the office. The parent/guardian will need to fill out the form and attach justification paperwork (e.g. doctor's notes, explanation of bereavement or other documents supporting the extenuating circumstance that caused the absence.
What is your policy on tardies?
Consistent with the absence policy the tardy policy is strict at ATHS. All time accrued by tardies must be flexed by the end of the block or the student may risk losing credit. If the student fails to make up tardy time after two (2) tardies an alternate may be assigned or credit will not be applied to their transcript.
What is your policy on electronics?
Students may not use cell phones, mp3 players, CD players, PSP's, or other electronics during class time. Parents who need to contact their child must call through the school office. Electronic devices used during class time may be confiscated and in some instances, will not be returned unless the parent retrieves the device from an administrator.
What if I need to contact my student at school?
Calling a child's cell phone or texting is strictly forbidden in class regardless if it is a parent or friend. Should you need to contact your child during school hours, you may call the front office and the receptionist will relay the message or contact the classroom so the student may come to the phone. Every distraction in class interrupts the environment that teachers work diligently to preserve. Cell phones may at any time be confiscated by teachers or administration.
What is your school dress code?
The dress code is a detailed document so for that reason it is highly recommended that parents and students review the complete dress code in the Student Handbook. The following are a few of the more common issues: Strapless tops or tops with straps smaller than two fingers width may not be worn unless covered by a sweater that must be worn at all times while on campus. Undergarments may not be displayed. No slippers or sleepwear is allowed. T-shirts that display offensive material including but not limited to drug/alcohol, gang affiliation, or sexual suggestion is strictly prohibited. Headgear is not allowed in any classroom, office or building on campus. Headgear includes (but is not limited to) ball caps, do-rags, bandannas, hoods, sunglasses and headphones/ear-buds. Colored rags must not be displayed either on person or hanging from a pocket. Shorts or skirts must reach below fingertips when arms are down at sides.
Students who do not follow dress code will have put on a ‘dress code’ shirt or shorts. If the violation is not rectified with dress code clothing a parent/guardian may be called to bring a different outfit. Time lost due to dress code violation must be made up during Friday flex.
What kind of bag can my child bring to school?

Those who are approved to pick up a student may need to present an ID before the student is released. Approved persons may be added into the school system at any time, but can only be added by a parent or guardian.
Can my child sign him/herself out of school?
If the student is 18 years of age or older, he/she may sign out of school without permission from an adult unless otherwise notified by a parent or guardian.
