Mission Statement
Literacy in reading, writing, and critical thinking and proficiency in math are the foundations for all of life’s achievements; therefore, by imbedding these foundations in our alternative school, we create a model that ensures all of our students’ ultimate success in contributing positively to society by offering standards-based instruction to best prepare students for post graduate studies.

Goals 3: Students in each grade level will improve performance on the AIMS Math test by 5% more students passing each year than the prior year if under 50%.
Goal Expectations
Writing
Teachers will include the complete writing process (pre-writing, outlining, rough draft, revision, and final draft) in classes as appropriate. In order to ensure students get adequate practice in the writing process, the following courses are required to include the complete writing process AT LEAST one time per block (all courses EXCEPT Math and Physical Education).
This writing assignment must be graded using the Six Traits of Writing Rubric used to score the AIMS test. If required for the course as listed above, the student MUST COMPLETE this Writing Process Paper (formally MWA) in order to receive a passing grade. Non-English teachers will grade Ideas, Organization and Conventions. English teachers will grade all six traits.
Reading
Every teacher should include reading activities in their curriculum. These may include learning strategies to identify new vocabulary words within the text, practice in summarizing text, reading aloud to develop fluency, identifying the main idea or other reading skills as appropriate. In order to improve reading skills, students need practice! Therefore, avoid providing all content via lecture or group work. Individual reading, group reading, and whole class reading should be utilized as often as possible.
Math
Teachers will continue to individualize instruction as much as possible in order to meet the various needs within the classroom.
